The Spring Session for the Theatre Academy will focus on two areas of performance that often need attention, acting and singing. Sessions on Monday and Thursday evenings will have teachers working both in a group and individually to choose monologues and songs that are best suited for the participating students. Each middle school and high schooler will have the opportunity to work on the pieces during the week and then perform these selections for judges and friends and family. The performers will receive written feedback, both positive observations and what can be improved. The hope is that Theatre Academy’s older students will end the week with a polished monologue and a perfected song they can use for future auditions.
Debra Macut will lead the Acting Session on Monday, April 28 and Thursday, May 1. If there are enough students registered, we will add another teacher. Debra will teach all students the importance of an appropriate monologue, age-appropriate and challenging. She will help the students understand the meaning of words and phrases, what the author intended, the emotions that emerge from the written word and how to express them. Actors will learn how to dig for meaning.
Sierra Fields will teach the Singing Session on Thursday, May 1. If there are enough sign-ups, we will add another music teacher. Sierra will gauge the range of each student, tone and quality. She will help the singers understand the importance of choosing a song that is best suited to them, how to patiently learn the notes, rhythm and the message. Storytelling and emotion are added important elements as well.
For any students who are interested in only acting, they will enjoy a second Acting Session on Thursday evening while the Singing Session is taking place.
Saturday, May 3, will be performance day. Friends and family are invited to the Share Time from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. depending on the number of students. The teachers and others will act as judges for the students. Each child will be encouraged in as many ways as possible, including the growth the teachers observed during the week. They will also be given ways in which they can improve their pieces and their overall craft. The Theatre Academy is looking for a positive experience for every student and their families.
Total Cost for 3 Professional Classes: $90.00 per student
