Hershey Area Playhouse Theatre Academy Offers Spring Classes
Try something new with a four-week intensive film class
HERSHEY, Pa., March 21, 2018 – As winter turns to spring, the Playhouse Theatre Academy, sponsored in part by a grant from Hershey Foods, continues its excellent programming with something new- an intensive 4-week film course for older elementary, middle school and high school students.
Four of our talented teachers will be working together to offer intensive work in acting for the camera, camera techniques, film editing and post-production techniques to guide young filmmakers in the creation of a short film.
The class will end with a film festival and family fun time as teams race the clock to teach their parents skills learned and create an original “on the spot” film. Come join the fun starting April 7th and running for four Saturdays at the playhouse for three hours each Saturday.
This four-week intensive class is open to grades 4-12. Our scheduled class for grades 4-6 will go from 9-12 and will teach students to condense ‘who-what-where- why” into 60 short seconds of a movie trailer, using the genre to teach basic film skills, camera shots and angles and encouraging students to get creative and dream big.
Classes for grades 7-12 will be from 1-3 and will teach pre and post techniques to create expressive music videos in a “playground” atmosphere of creative exploration. Students will be challenged to create a storyline, given a camera, simple video editing software, and a time limit of 2 minutes for the finished product. This intensive four-week session also includes a special emphasis on acting for the camera and production roles.
