Hershey Area Playhouse Presents Godspell 2012

Hershey Area Playhouse Presents Godspell 2012
Performance Dates: Feb. 11-14 and Feb. 18-21, 2016

HERSHEY, Pa., Jan. 21, 2016 – Kicking off its 2016 season, Hershey Area Playhouse is proud to present Godspell 2012, an updated version of the well-known musical that explores a portion of Jesus’s life, His death, and His followers.

The new version of Godspell is a masterful retelling of the original sensation, injected with contemporary references and dazzling new musical arrangements. A small group of people help Jesus Christ tell different parables by using a wide variety of games, storytelling techniques, and a hefty dose of comedic timing.

An eclectic blend of songs ranging in style from pop to vaudeville is employed as the story of Jesus's life dances across the stage. Dissolving hauntingly into the Last Supper and the Crucifixion, Jesus's messages of kindness, tolerance, and love come vibrantly to life.

"My goal with this production is to take our audiences back to when Jesus was a teacher, who showed people how to love and coexist in a turbulent world,” said Godspell 2012 director Jan McCreary. “This message is quite appropriate in today’s world.”

Bringing this updated musical to life, the cast members of Godspell 2012 include: Tony Barber as Jesus; and Miguel Gonzales as John the Baptist/Judas. Additional cast members include: Tom Bowman; Susan Cort; Celia Lerner; Becky Mease; John Messmer; Hannah Paymer; Kate Ramsey; and Caleb Stelle.

In addition to McCreary, production staff members for Godspell 2012 include: Jennifer Feldser, producer; Lindy Mack, musical director; Cristal Sheaffer, vocal director; and Kelly Strange, choreographer.

Experience the masterful retelling of Godspell 2012, running Feb. 11-14 and Feb. 18-21, 2016. Thursday through Saturday performances begin at 7:30 p.m.; Sunday performances begin at 2 p.m.
